When to put down grub killer?

When is the right time to put down grub granules to prevent/kill iris borers? I had borers maybe 2 years ago. I think the grub killer took care of it but want to make sure they donÂt come back. I am in Zone 5, Chicago, and the irises are about 3-4 inches high right now.

If you're talking about imidacloprid granules, you should apply them immediately and water them in well. You want to make sure the irises have time to take up the chemical through their roots and distribute it throughout their plant tissues before the borer eggs hatch. Don't delay. Do it now.
