Reblooming Iris varieties

I'm not familiar with Iris names/varieties..I have some tall beautiful Iris blooming now, but I have no idea what their names are. We must have planted them since we moved here 5 yrs. ago but don't remember and don't seem to have any documentation of them(that I can find)There seem to be a lot of Iris that haven't bloomed. If they don't bloom this year, should I dig them up and replant them elsewhere? I would really like some purple varities to blend with those yellows. Any suggestions? Purples could be medium height.

Hard to assess your bearded iris without seeing what's going on. There will always be fans in clumps that have no bloom stalk. If you have a vigorous yellow it can overtake weaker growers. Have you only had yellow bloom in past years? If they are all the same it's an 'easy' job to redo. If you have colors mixed together you could use a conservative approach. Removing duplicates only.

I mark iris for removal when they are in bloom. As soon as the last bloom is wilting I dig that/those rhizomes, leaving some for future bloom. I don't have the space to keep all the increases.

A reliable purple rebloomer is Rosalie Figge. She is not a red-purple as some photos show.

If you want a short purple with excellent rebloom you can get Grandma's Purple Flag. It bloomed all year here. It will give your yellow iris some competition.

About the iris that have not bloomed: are they mixed in with the ones that are blooming? If so, your iris need to be divided. They stop blooming when they get too crowded.

I have an iris named CLARENCE that is a prolific rebloomer in Central Indiana. It has white standards with a blue-purple falls. CLARENCE is one of my most reliable rebloomers.

I really don't know what this one is. I got it at Walmart in a package that said blue bearded iris. It did not mention that it reblooms. I planted the two bulbs that were in the package, and, like yours, one has never bloomed. The other won't stop blooming! It also won't stand still in the wind to get it's picture taken, so it's a little blurry! Taken Yesterday

Hi dirtywench,
It is difficult to get tall bearded irises to rebloom in your zone, because by the time they put up second stalks a freeze hits and they go kaput. There are a number of median irises that rebloom, though.

Many folks have luck with TB Immortality. You can also check the list at the Reblooming Iris Society's website, I think they list zones.
