Hydroponics Cultivation

Hi guys. I'm new here, and also new to hydroponic gardening. I am doing hydroponics in my thesis, and I need to cultivate plants with hydroponics as the medium.

The plants I am using are Snake Plant (Sanseveria trifascata) and Gold dust dracaena (Dracaena Surculosa).

The thing is, water MUST be used for the shoots to root. What i did was to cut healthy shoots from potted plants and immersed them into hydroponics nutrient solution.

After 2 weeks, dracaena seems to be thriving on the solution, although they havent rooted yet. But I've noticed most of my snake plant cuts have soft and mushy tissues on the under part of the cut, and it smells too. I've done some reading around and I think they're rotting.

My questions are:

1. Is hydroponic solution a suitable medium for cut shoots to root themselves?

2. Are snake plants cuts able to grow roots in nutrient solutions? I've read that snake plants thrive on less water, but with hydroponics its all about water.

Please advise me what to do on the rot. Thanks guys! Appreciated! :)
