Neither me, nor my friend, also hydrangea collector from z6, had no luck with Blaumeisse, meaning no bloom for two years on a row despite very favorable winters we had both years.
His was planted next to foundation with SE exposure, mine was protected from W by retaining wall and from all other sides by azaleas/rhodo combo.
I gave mine to another friend who lives on Long Island, NY z7.

I have Kardinal and a number of other Tellers here in Z7. They're "generally" reliable in 7 but even here you have to plant them in a protected area. Mine are in a fenced in small city backyard.

There are certainly better lacecaps for "landscape" effect. But yeah, it's hard to beat the teller knock-out blooms.

Thanks everyone... Well, I already bought them, so I'm going to give them a try with a burlap and microfoam wrap and see what happens... Wish me luck... Sounds like I'll need it here in OH... but they are gorgeous!

I can't address the hardiness of the Teller series in other parts of the country, but they are extremely reliable performers here in the NW. IMO, they are some of the most spectacular in bloom of any of the hydrangeas and well worth the effort to try and grow. 'Teller' means 'plate' in German and that is an apt description of the very wide, flat flowerheads these plants produce. I also find the sterile florets to be extremely large and the colors very saturated compared to other lacecaps so even if blooms are not overly profuse they are extraordinarily showy. Personally I wouldn't be without 'Blaumeise' - perhaps my most favorite of all the hydrangeas.
