What species were you leaf rooting? That sounds intriguing.

I am rooting a new type of Sambucus, I only try this method instead of the conventional one because I am short of cuttings.
I tried it with an expensive cultivar of Dahlia years ago, but only one leaf cutting survived and made a good root, unfortunatly a slug got it for breakfast
What inspired me to try this method,when I was a horticulture student in my youth I worked for a Market gardener, free gratis, for the practical experience.
He was not only short of cash to pay me but could not afford the money for plants to propergate.
He stripped all the leaves off a Pyrethrum and put them in sharp sand to my astonishment all of the rooted very quickly.

You will find that large leaf begonias will produce many plants from one leaf just by cutting through the veins in the leaf and planting on damp peat moss. Just press the cut area into the medium and wait.

I tried a further experiment with leaf cuttings with fushias
My wife bought one named plant of each cultivar and I used the largest leaves as well as the cuttings
They rooted in 20deg heat in 3 weeks the same time as the cuttings
excluding st paulias and begonias where the normal method is leaf cuttings has any one tried any other species

I have been successful in rooting hosta leaves, ice plant leaves and sweet potato leaves.This time I am going to root sweet potato leaves for planting as seedlings. Worth trying, atleast for curiocity.

With the hosta leaves did you set the leaves up right or lay them flat and cut the viens as one would do with a begonia?
