You did perfect. They've had a shock but will recover if you let their soil dry between soakings. Just leave what foliage is left and hopefully some will stay green enuf to do some work.

After blooming the mother rhizome will put energy into producing offsprings instead of into foliage growth. Her foliage slowly yellows and dies as summer progresses. These may skip bloom next year until the offsets grow large enough to produce a bloom stalk. It all depends upon how vigorous a cultivar it is. A sweet rememberance.

Yes Jellytoast. You are correct. The original poster had dying foliage due to transplant shock. The only way I know to avoid that is to have a strong arms & back and a big shovel.

There are differing practices here on clumps of beardeds that look lousy in mid-summer. Some cannot stand the look of the foliage and cut it back. I'm in the other camp. I leave it to wither. Unless it's an iris I want to slow down!
