Looking for examples

Hello group.

I am working on a CD / DVD called "Home Hydroponics". On the CD I hope to have examples (graphics and text) of some good home hydroponics systems and their results. I am looking for no more than about 12 good examples, so I cannot promise that all who respond will end up on the CD. What I am asking for are some good shots of your operations and some text about yourself (nothing personal), and about your system. For your work, I will provide you a copy of the finished product (and updates as they occur). The following is a list of items that will be covered. The CD will be completely directed at vegetable production.

Introduction to Hydroponics

Hydroponics systems

Growing Medium

Home Systems

Nutrients

Carbon Dioxide

Seed starting and cloning

Lighting

Plans (probably plans for more than 15 different systems with graphics and part lists)

Plant problems

Fun Ideas

Home Hydroponics examples

An educational section for school teachers (with class plans and part lists, etc.)

Electrical Safety

Hobby greenhouses

Commercial products and companies (about those who have contributed)

Please contact me through my e-mail address

dennis_delaurier@sbcglobal.net and not through this list

Thanks and cheers

    Hi,
I can help with some of this stuff. All of my hydroponic systems are just getting started again, but I have a hobby size system and grow strawberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and lettuce hydroponically under artificial light. The lettuce I grow are in "plazma pockets" and grown on the walls, tomatoes and peppers are in deep water culture, and strawberries on ebb-flow. You need pictures and parts list? Who will this DVD be available to?

A 6 plant bubbler with 10 eeb pland sited around edge.
The bubbler made 48.9 pounds of sweet bananna peppers on 6 plants and only stoped there because it rand out of water in the august heat and died.

I have some very simple starting systems. I have a few DWC system with aquarium bubblers. They are made of whatever junk I could find. (like styrofoam cooler from dumpster lined with plastic, holes cut to hold yogurt cups that hold the lettuce and perlite.) They have been very sucessful at keeping us in very nice salad since last October. Very simple easy set up for beginners to start learning with.

I have also built a few solar powered gurgle gardens that have worked very well for my Snow peas and Chineese Kale. They are much like the gurgle gardens you find diagrams of on the web but I substituted the plug in air pump for a little DC air pump and a couple solar cells so that I don't need to worry about running extention cords. Only drawback is if no sun then I have to manually scoop nutrient from below and drench the medium every so often to keep things from drying out. Once the roots grow down through the holes this isn't as imparitive. Below is a link to a sight where some of the photos are. I will post another follow up with some more of the photos.

that' ssick. your veggies grew that much in a little over a week. nicely done, what did you use for nutrients?

db805, are you talking to me?
If so, the Nutrients are General Hydroponics MaxiGrow 10-5-14
it is a one part powder that I mix with water. Frankly it was the cheapest stuff at the hydroponics retailer in the area. That burst of growth over that week and a half could have been due to a combination of things. First I had upped the hours the light was on. Next I left town for about 5 days right before the 2nd picture and had put extra water in the resivuar. Later when I finally got a meter to check nute strength I found that I had probably been over feeding. The directions on the package recomended 1 tsp per Gallon (which comes close to a CF of 19 with my water) for salad greens and leafy vegetables but the CF chart I have recomends a much lower range for lettuce.
Some of that lettuce only lasted till the first week of January when it started bolting. I only got about a month of selective harvesting but it was really good salad.
The next batch I wound up with too much of the really spicy mesclun mix and I'm still trying to get the right balance.
