Overwintering hydrangea from a box

Hi all,

I have a hydrangea that I bought this past Spring. It came in a box, but just said Hydrangea macrophylla. I don't know the exact variety and now with the cooler temps arriving, I'm wondering if I can overwinter and if so, how? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Hydrangeas in those boxes are the same kind that are sold for the garden.

So, I suggest you plant it now, then protect as you normally would a newly installed woody plant in your region.

I suspect it will need some protection against cold temps for at least the first year. But, because your region is colder than mine, I hope someone local to you will chime in.
