I have grown runner beans and climbing purple pod dwarf beans for some years and they always climb counterclockwise ( viewed from above).But enough about that.I have just read that folk in some parts treat scarlet runners as perennial plants > I assume this is to do with the climate ??? I would however like top hear if anyone living in the South of England has tried this with any success ??
