Using GPS in the garden

Has anyone used a GPS to map where plants are in their yard? I don't yet own a GPS, but I would like to in the near future. I am hoping there is a GPS unit that will let me hold the unit over the plant, get the coordinates, and then give those coordinates a name (the plant name). I would like to then download the data on to the computer and make a map of my yard. Would anything like that be possible?

I know a fisherman can download lakes he fishes and then map the lake and where he catches fish, so why not in my garden?

Has anyone done this with their garden, if so, what GPS unit do you own?
