Anyone know what's wrong with this iris?

A friend has given me plenty of his irises because of his step-dad (don't worry, this is going somewhere) and because of his evil step-parent destroying irises on purpose my friend had to go from mid-August to the following March without planting his irises that were dug up and placed in a bag for the winter.

Well, after planting the irises we had an iris do something strange. Being two weeks ago Madame Chereau had bloomed, but certainly not the way an iris should. And it being so late in the season and it being just planted not too long ago, I don't think it is even established enough to bloom, it did, and neither of us has seen anything like this before even he, and he's grown his irises for eight years.

Here is a picture of what is going on:

It was blurry so I resized the photo. If you need more, here are some links to them.

We've lightly covered our rhyzomes with dirt to keep it moist until they were grown enough to uncover them. None of the others are doing this. I have another clump Madame Chereau a few feet away and it's not doing that. But this one is producing offspring, I don't know if they'd do this or not.

What I am having problems with is also getting the bloom out of there before it makes a seed pod and releases them. Hopefully it will come out of the iris leaves and can be cut or plucked off.

Any suggestions, ideas or experiences with anything like this would be lovely to hear.

I thank anyone in advance for replies.
