moving iris'

I ve had my Bearded Iris' for about 3 years now and heard they should be divided, and I also want to move them. Is now a good time to move them- they have stopped blooming for about 2-3 weeks? How much of a leaf do I leave when trimming? In a book, I read when separating them to put fungicide on them after separating them. Is this necessary if Im just going to plant them again?

I usually wait until they have finished blooming for six weeks, but it won't hurt to go ahead and do it now. You want to get them at least 6 weeks to settle in before winter sets in.

I leave about 7 inches or so of the fan attached. Never really measured it. I cut them back until they no longer flop.

I have never put fungicide on mine when digging them. I do soak them in a bleach water soultion (1 part bleach to 10 parts water) for about 10 minutes or so, rinse them really well and then lay them out so they will dry and then replant once they are dry.

If I am just moving the clumps for myself and not giving any away then I just plop them down in the new spots without all the soaking etc..
