I would think so. In my experience the fans only stop growing when they bloom. If no bloom happens the fan continues to grow as normal. Ever see an old rhizome like a foot long that has been struggling in grass? They continue to grow along each year, never putting out increases or blooming, just growing along...

I have seen the same thing. You can see the yearly marks on the rhizome. In my little corner of the world if you cut these in pieces at the yearly marks and plant them almost all will live and put up many increase if planted in a good spot and tended a little bit. Lee Mincy

Some early bloomers don't bloom because the bud rots out at rhizome level if the weather is cold and wet. These rhizomes will often still put out side shoots and form healthy clumps. For me, some varieties are simply not worth growing because they try to bloom too early in the season.

If it still has a fan, you're ok. Sometimes the main fan drys up.
Most large plants that are sent from commericial gardens are the ones that did not bloom.

Thanks! I think this is good news. I did have a few early bloomers that didn't bloom last year because of something (cold, heat, slugs, whatever), but this year it was some midseason types (all in the same area) that didn't bloom. I will assume that they just need a little extra time, and not disturb them.
