Hi Wertach. Peas are hardy and will tolerate several nights of 25F after they are planted out. March 1 is my planting date for the first round of peas even though snow is still possible.

It takes about 48 hours after you start soaking them for roots to start to appear. So I do not start soaking them more than three days max before I want to plant them out or the roots get too long and can break.

I put them in a pint or quart jar with cheese cloth or similar mesh over the to give them air. Soak them 8 hours or so and then pour the water off. Rinse and drain them a few times a day. - Dick

I don't soak - but only for practical reasons. I am not sufficiently organised and the weather here is not sufficiently predictable to be certain of being able to sow them at the correct time. If they are soaked too long they can start to rot.

Mine sprouted overnight! Wow! The roots were an inch and 1/2 long when I planted them this morning! They will probably be up by Monday... ;)

We set a new record yesterday with 78 degree temps. Now I have spring fever for sure!
