I agree it looks like Dawn of Change, but DOC was registered in 1993, and I know my grandmother did not buy new iris, and I am sure she had this one for a number of years prior to my receiving it.

Maybe someone gave it to her as a gift. My memory could be a bit faulty. :)

I'm going to have to second Dawn of Change. Yellow beards are uncommon on reverses. The only oldies I've found with partial yellow beards are:

Glacier Sky 1984 B.yel in throat ending wht
Ice Cave 1985 B.yel, falls look veined

And neither looks a match in form.

Yours resembles Dawn of Change right down to the end of the beard.

Thanks. I have looked at just about every Iris site and can't find anything close to it. I just can't figure out how Grandma had it!

I've been lurking here for some time and had a thought. When I'm driving around and notice a very nice iris of a different color I make a note of it. Then I go home and find some different colors and dig them up. Next chance I get I go to that person's house and ring their doorbell. When they answer the door I say how much I have been admiring their flowers and ask if they want to trade. You would not believe how well this has worked out for me and I have done it with iris and daylillies. They are always happy that I have noticed their flowers and are excited with the prospect of new colors. There must be other people out there who do this too, so grandma may have done some trading or gotten it as a gift. Janice

Maybe she was a closet iris buyer...or maybe something as simple as a seed catalog, she saw it and she ordered it... with a coupon or something.
