Use T8s instead of T12s?

The light fixtures I just bought for my seed starting setup can use either a T8 or T12 fluorescent bulb. Looking at the wattages and lumens while window shopping bulbs one 34 watt T8 I saw had a higher lumen output than a 40 watt T12 of the same color temperature. But the T8s cost more, $24 for a box of 10 compared to 19 for a box of 10 T12s. So I guess long term the T8s would actually be cheaper than the T12s.

4100K bulbs are cheaper than 6500K bulbs, does the better spectrum justify the extra cost?
