hostas in containers question

Hi all, I'm a novice hosta grower that usually hangs out in the Cottage Gardening and WinterSowing forums.

It's early to be thinking about this but I want to be prepared for this fall when my hostas go dormant. They are ALL in terra cotta pots this year and thriving! But, I usually clean out my terra cotta and store it in the garage for the winter. These were the only pots I had at the time that I dug up my hostas and put them in pots and now I'm realizing my mistake. Can anyone tell me if it's going to be a problem to re-pot them into plastic when the time comes? Also, will leaving them in the pots for the winter provide enough insulation? Any other tips for overwintering them? I'd just put them in the ground but we have terrible mole problems here and last year, they uprooted my hostas so badly that they started to die back. NOT GOOD!

Thanks for any help you can offer,

Stephanie
