light turning off constantly

We have a Future Brite Ballast Grow light 600Watts that keeps shutting off after about 15 mins in use it does however turn back on after another 10 Mins ... Not sure if this is a safety feature or a defect ... Please help :)

You have a thermo problem. Sometimes, the lamp will do this also if it has many hours on it.
Here's what I would do:
Let the lamp cool down. Remove the electric. Remove the bulb. Look on the base of the lamp to see if it had a poor connection. You can tell a poor connection by the solder looking splattered or greenish/black. Look at the socket for any black/blue tracking.
Get back to me with your findings. Also old lamps will do this.

thanks for your response. i removed the bulb and looked in the socket and didnt see any splattering or discoloring. it looked very new actually. is there any where else i can check to see if this is the problem?? thank you for your help.

We custom make our lighting. One thing we've done for situations like this is to make a canopy large enough to cover the junction box, as well as center it over the island, then put multiple pendants hanging from it. You could do a long narrow canopy and have 2 or 3 lights hanging for example... enough to cover it, but if it's sized to cover as well as center the fixture, no one would even realize! The images below are just ideas, we can do it with as many or as few pendants as you like using our blown or fused glass. Don't feel stuck to have to create a whole chandelier unless you want that look.

Thanks, katinahat. Your idea is actually a good one ... you got me thinking and decided I will actually replace the square table with a round one. And we have now replaced the light fixture with a recessed light. It was a good solution for now since the light fixture is pretty high (flush with the ceiling), and ,at least to me, its location is bearable. ... (this is an update a few minutes after I responded to katinahat) ... I just tried your idea of aligning the table with the angled wall section ... and ... genius ... it looks so much better!! There is plenty space to walk between the table and the island and wall counters and it actually looks surprisingly good. I will still replace the table with a round one, but now I am not in a rush for that. Thanks!!

Auntthelma nailed it. The former owners of our house put in bathroom lighting with the fixture "upturned"...and it is OBVIOUSLY the wrong way. I can tell that they didn't think the whole "mirror + lighting" thing through and found out later that their purchase was the wrong thing for the space. To fix it, the turned it upside down and voila..."fixed". But it is an obvious cheap fix.

AC units, like heaters, will "turn off" when it reaches the desired temperature. When the internal thermometer reads the room temp, it either turns "On" the compressor (to get things cooler) or it turns "Off" once the required temp has been reached. Many of these new units have a temperature setting. You can program it to reach 69 F if you like. Or 58 F. The compressor will continue to pump cold air until it reaches the programmed temperature. Then the compressor shuts off and blows regular air. If you have temperature setting, have a look at what it is set at. If it is set "too warm" (like 75 F) then the compressor will turn off much sooner than if it was set to 69 F. My portable unit has this feature. I have to set the desired temperature and it will turn itself "on" and "off" as per the program. Go ahead and check your settings before calling the help line. It could be something as simple as the program setting. The next question I would ask: Does the compressor turn back ON after a while? If it does, then it is probably programming and temp settings we are dealing with. And sloshing is normal depending on the unit and the drainage you have set up.

(Lermer) "Future Brite" is not the best e-ballast; Life Light is. Probably there is a thermal switch in the ballast that turns it off if too hot; this switch (or something else) might be faulty.

I install more HP lamps in my business than ballasts for lighting. 95% lamps installed as to 5% ballasts for HP.
Because of the base up for lamps the socket takes a beating.
You did not say how old tha lamp was.
I am not sure about what ballast is better or worse.
I don't want to make you spend money, but I would change the lamp first.

thank you again for your help. i talked with future brite and through trouble shooting and your help we have decided it is the lamp that is faulty. so i need a new one.

being new to growing with lights what do you reccomend. i have a 600 watt ballast. the guy from future brite told me not to exceed 120volts. i am growing a variety of vegetables. tomato, lettuce, peppers, herbs and some flowers. can you help me decide which lamp is right for my needs before i drop a lot of money on one. the one i was using before was a hortilux super hps. thank you!

I have a black diamond led grow light perfect sun it keeps shutting off. If I mess with the switch a bunch it comes back on . I just got mad and punched it n it came back on . I think I hv a bad switch or short. Anyone else have this happen?
