i don't know what burpee had, but grow italian, http/ /www.seedsfromitaly.com/ has one called smeraldo. another flat pod yellow pole bean that i like meraviglia di venezia is also available from them. the owner is bill mckay. he is a good guy. he is the one who answers the phone when you call.

This is the yellow Italian pole bean from Seeds from Italy that you mentioned. I've grown Smeraldo green Italian pole beans ordered from Park Seeds, which is pictured with a flat yellow bean, but nothing is offered by them under the name of yellow Smeraldo. The Smeraldo green Italian pole beans were absolutely delicious and very productive.

my apology. it does appear smeraldo is green and not yellow. i had typed yellow roma pole bean in google, and the name came up. when i adjusted the angle of my lap top, the bean color changed from yellow to green. plus i thought i had seen a yellow roma offered by grow italian. i thought aha, there it is. i should have paid a bit more attention. i saw one somewhere in one of the catalogs this past winter.
can't remember which one now.

I think y'all are thinking of Burpee's Golden Pole bean. I grew it a long time ago, I didn't try it again after I used up the first batch of seed since the vines seemed to take their time to actually climb, so the first pods develop at ground level, more like right on the ground! So pod rot and slug munching were problems until later pickings started moving up the vines. Otherwise, a good flat wax bean.

I just did a quick google search and Burpee's Golden Pole can be found at the occasional boutique seed outlet.

I might suggest Marvel of Venice as a substitute, another flat podded yellow variety more widely available.

I don't know Italian, but I wonder if the previously mentioned Meraviglia di Venezia is Marvel of Venice.
