Free lights are good

After I moved my office to my home, my former landlord decided he needed to renovate it (it had been nearly 30 years since it was last done!). His son has access to free, new lights, so Charlie gave me six, 4-bulb, 4' fluros. They are T-12 bulbs, some almost new, some quite old. But they are free. If I go with the thin cut Oasis Horticubes, I could start nearly 7200 seedlings under them. Or start 48 full-size tomato plants in a DWC hydro system, then switch to HID lights once the plants get large. Or 48 sq. ft. of lettuce/chard/basil.

My daughter is moving out of the house in a couple of weeks and I see a great use for her bedroom!

Sounds like a killer start to a new grow room to me. Not sure how big it is but 6 of those fixtures would come close to covering my bedroom ceiling.
It's nice to have those kinds of friends/acquaintances. My landlord brought me a lot of the hardware I needed to build my first 2 composters.

The room is about 14x10, plus has a closet where I can store supplies. For seedlings, I can close off the vent and keep it in the low 60s most days without any problems. I'm trying to collect info about a raft hydro system, since it would be perfect for lettuce and chard, maybe even Sugar Snap peas and green beans, though I don't know how much light the latter two need to be productive.
