So long as you don't get them wet, you can thaw and then refreeze with little damage. I suggest getting a few dessicant packs to put in with beans, it helps absorb any moisture that gets in the container when it is opened.

Bill Best was saying that they just single bag them but are careful with handling the bags. His colleague Frank Barnett says that he tripple bags them in 4 mil bags.

Thanks guys, I'm going to have to store some of my bean seed in the freezer long term, I have so many more varieties to wade through in the next couple of years, hopefully keep the seed viable. It'll be awhile before I can get back to most of what I'm growing this year. I'm only going to freeze 50-100 seed of the varieties grown this year and future years ( being optimistic here :). The seed should be good and dry and ready for the freezer come January/February if the weather doesn't screw me up.
The forecast is for a long, dry, HOT summer, not what we're used to. June can be and usually is a wet month, this June has started out hot and dry, bad for our forests. If this keeps up I'll be whining, hiding in the house sitting under a fan. Keeping my fingers crossed we don't end up with heavy duty water restrictions.

Annette, I take mine out of the freezer, plant what is required and put back in the freezer. I don't bother to thaw them out and I have been doing this for years with good results. I keep my seed in two gallon zip lock bags with a typed list of what is in the bag on the bag top. It makes it easy to locate what I need without digging all thru the freezer. This works for me. We all have our system and this is mine.
