Hybridizer and descriptions

Hello Iris growers;

I have recently acquired 2 cultivars of German Tall-bearded Iris,TB Amsterdam and TB Symphona, which I have been unable to find information about.

I am searching for the name of the Hybridizer, the year and an accurate color description... a photo would be great as well. I have searched all the growers I could contact on-line but none appear to be growing them.

I can be reached by e-mail at lonesometown@uniserve.com or I can search this forum.

Thanks,

Warren

    Here's a photo of Amsterdam

And while I'm not sure this is the same as Symphona, Symphonia . . .

If U scroll down 3 pix after following the Amsterdam link you'll find Symphona.

Thank you for help with pictures and descriptions. I am still in search of the name of the hybridizer and the year of release, if anyone else can supply this information.

    Thanks, Warren

Unfortunately I think those Iris are made up... There are no records on the official registry for Amsterdam or Symphona. Therefore, hybridizer information cannot be obtained.

The only thing that comes up with Amsterdam is SOUVENIR DE L'EXP. INT. D'AMSTERDAM.

I checked out the site and don't understand what is going on here. They call these two 2006 introductions, and, as you say, they are not registered. Hybridizers can wait until the year of introduction before they register an introduction, so they could still be 2006 introductions. Schreiners and Cooleys rarely register anything before the year it goes on sale.

But these two are old-fashioned in form and unless stated as registered as 'retro' irises, they do not represent modern irises for 2006.

They also list some other registered and introduced irises (not their own) under that new for 2006 heading. Maybe they are just new to them, but they are not new irises.

They mention all of the flower companies they have taken over. Maybe, this is going to be a successor to Michigan Bulb or some other such unreliable concern.

Thanks again for your efforts. I've tried getting information on the Iris from Van Bloem Gardens, which is the grower of the Iris I acquired. Their descriptions are vague and do not list Hybridizer. They were marketed as new for this year, but that probably means new release from the contract grower in North America. I have a feeling that they are either from England or Holland. Will keep trying. Does anyone know of any internet links links to Iris growers in England, I know they are out there, but have lost track over the years.

I googled Van Bloem and the brief look I gave to their site did not show the entire catalog. I do remember checking out iris in their catalogs and they usually carried well-known ones. So you may have luck ID-ing by posting a pic.
