Lilies are NOT changing color

I see that many people complain that their lilies change color. My bulb asiatic lilies are NOT changing color. No, they are just blooming in colors that I never ordered, in my garden, and also in my mother's lovely pink and purple pastel garden. I have one that is obviously an Oriental lily, possibly Silk Road, four other white Oriental lilies that will not open in our heat, and several dozen assorted blood red, orange, and yellow Asiatics.

Why am I complaining?

I ordered two colors- Orange Electric and white Asiatics for mom. No white lilies bloomed at all. Aren't these lilies grown in massive fields of one color? How the heck do they get so jumbled together once they get to the seller? Is someone scooping up fallen bulbs from the factory floor and bagging them up with randomly chosen labels? I realize I can ask for replacements, but with this track record, it seems like the odds of getting what I ordered are next to nil, so I had better buy some irises instead.

Do you ever have this problem?

Even the best lily suppliers give the wrong bulbs.

But honestly, I only buy any more from the lily specialists and it is rare that I get the wrong thing. And believe me, I buy a LOT of lily bulbs.

I also buy from our lily society who sources from the lily specialists.

It's unfortunate that you got the wrong colors, but hey, Silk Road is a GREAT lily. Move it to a place where the color fits in.

The Orientals don't last in my garden and so I don't buy them any more.

I'm with kprp. Mislabeling happens, but if you buy from the reputable sellers it's rare. I have tended to go with places that specialize whether it be hostas, lilies, daylilies etc. and I am rarely disappointed. I have to agree that Silk Road is a great lily, though it's an Orienpet not an Oriental. Move it or trade it to someone for something else.
The orientals don't do well in my garden either, so I don't buy them. Just a side note, I would love to hear from someone who has orientals that FLOURISH! They must be happy somewhere and I'm curious as to where it is.

My lilies have changed color. I came to your site with that question because I now have 25 white lilies in different parts of my garden. While I won't say I have never purchased a white lily, never is the closest term. Thes lilies are not seedlings but good sturdy 3+ feet tall. They should be yellow, orange or some variant of those colors, but they are white. We had blazing hot weather back in April, then a good long cold snap after andsome of my lilies have fused buds (IE. buds are not opening)but most are fine an sassy and very white.

I've had plenty of lilies and other plants bloom and not be what I ordered or purchased if not in bloom when I did so. Mislabeling happens often. Unfortunately...

Even from great suppliers like Brent and Becky's (rubrums instead of speciosum albums last year) More often from big box or discount stores.
