It has to have it's bulb to bloom next year. However, there is a possibility that there might be some baby bulblets among the stem roots. If so, it will take a couple of years for them to grow to blooming size. Your stem will die back in the fall if not sooner. You might check then for bulblets in the roots.

You don't lose anything by trying either. I was moving some bulbs last year (stargazer), completely wrong time of the year before they had bloomed, but I had to move them. I accidently broke off the stem from the bulb, but the stem had roots still. I put it in the ground & watered it in well. The plant came back this year, didn't bloom, but looks healthy. I think it will probably take another year to develop blooming size bulb, but I think it will. I remember reading a thread here someone else had done that successfully, I think it was martagon lilies, but it worked.
