I have a long perennial bed where I've planted groups of yellow, orange and red orange asiatic lilies. They come up beautifully every year, multiplying and blooming with no problem. The real problem I've had for the past three yrs. is the browning of the leaves from the bottom up. The first yr. I blamed the rabbits, the second yr. I blamed too much water ( I have soaker hoses in the bed) and this yr. I'm blaming overcrowding. any suggestion as to which is the correct answer. I've pulled out the smaller bulblets to increase the air circulaion around them. I'm envious of all the beautiful pictures on this site. My flowers are beautiful but since they can be seen from the front of the bed the plants look terrible. Is this a common problem? Are they better suited to the back of a perennial bed with shorter plants in front of them to hid the browning leaves. This problem doesn't seem to be keeping them from blooming.. Thanks for any help.
