I have found that imidacloprid, which I apply in early spring for borer control, also does an excellent job of controlling aphids in my iris beds.

I don't know how far a grounded aphid can travel.

One year all the rhizomes from one supplier looked fine. 2 weeks later when I began planting there were solid !! aphids covering every bit of foliage. I wiped them off --- they were smashed! A new group hatched and I got out the malathion. One spraying did the trick.
