Have you pulled peas yet, and which was the best

Am in the process of pulling out spring pea plants. So far have pulled

Oregon Sugar pod (average)

Oregon Giant from Jungs (nice, big pods)

Mammoth Melting Sugar from Jungs (like a smaller version of Oregon Giant)

But the best was

Super Sugar Snap from Jungs. This pea made a medium sized pod that was thick and fleshy all through, and was sweet from the smallest size right up to full roundness. It did not get an unpleasant taste at full maturity like some other peas do, it just went from sweet to a nice pea taste. I might grow only this one from now on.

Worst pea was the Golden India Edible Pea from John Scheepers. It's only edible when flat. As soon as peas start to fill out it becomes tough and tasteless. It was a first time try that I probably will not grow again. Though maybe in a wetter spring it would have done better.

Had to pull peas quite awhile ago, but our best was Cascadia - a sugar pea. Very sweet, weathered the leaf-footed bugs much better than others. I agree on the golden peas - they were ok when tiny, but quickly became woody.

Only grew one pea this year but it was a keeper: 'Caruther's Purple Pod'. Among my few plants remaining after the Great Squirrel Raid of 2011, yield has been excellent. Flavor is rich and sweet (unlike many purple-podded peas) and the peas are large, fat and easy to shell. An added bonus was the beauty of the plants, with glaucous-tinged foliage and ornamental blooms.

i find that i am quite fond of peas Happy.

Golden Sweet-Sourced from PineTree. I liked it! Good sized, not woody, good yield. Pretty purple flowers so pretty against yellow tinted foliage. Not sweet like sugar snap peas but nice mixed with green snow peas and stir fried. I'll grow this one again.

Oregon Giant-Low yield and pods not that giant! Short vines, white flowers. Grew these alongside:

Cascadia-Nice! Short, vigorous vines with white flowers. Sweet crunchy peas. Decent yield even during short days.

Carouby de Maussane-Grew these for the flowers which weren't very impressive. Susceptible to PM. Seemed heat sensitive. Nice flavor, tho.

Ho Lan Dow-Sourced from Gourmet Seeds international. Seems like Ho Lan Dow is usually a type of snow pea but this was a small, sweet, crunchy sugar snap pea. Short, vigorous vines. A lot like Cascadia.

Got a few more new-to-me varieties to try next year but won't miss planting Super Sugar Snaps again. You're right, Happy, they are hard to beat!
