Hopefully Dean will weigh in, he was the one that first mentioned it. I grew some plants from seed he sent me, but 2 of the 3 plants I grew had green or half-green pods, so apparently some crossing had taken place. I saved seed from the yellow-podded plant & sent it all back to Dean, since I don't presently have time to purify it. It had dark brown seed, and looked very similar to another variety I grow, "Tisa", which was collected in Serbia.

I meant to grow Tisa this season from seed Alex sent me, but I never got around to it. How was it? Anything like Uzice Speckled Wax? I'm biased now, I base all my wax bean judgments off that :)

I tried growing Bosnian Yellow Pod this season, however I lost all but one plant and doubt it will produce any seed this season. As Zeedman stated I want to decross them. Next season I will put them in a different garden and give them 100% isolation and better care.

Here is what I know about the beans, I received them from Galina, who received them from Jaap Vlaming in the Netherlands, who received them from Ruurd Walrecht, who is also from the Netherlands, who got them from Bosnian refugees. Here is a comment I received: this one is a very tasty, tender variety. Do not over cook for the best taste.

No, very different. For one thing, it is an aggressive climber, with pods borne well above the ground. It started slow, but came on really strong in late summer. The pods are thicker than "Uzice", with an unusual flavor, almost fruity. The pods developed strings, though, as they got older. Fortunately, I took a side-by-side photo of the pods:

I changed the generic description "Serbian Yellow Pole" to "Uzice Speckled Wax" after consultation with Alex, who was the source for both.

My guess, Dean, is probably not. Chances are that the "black" Jaap refers to is one of the black-seeded cultivars, such as "Marvel of Venice". The black-seeded wax beans that I have seen all had round or egg-shaped seed (I grow one of them, "Maradan Hill"). Your bean has the normal kidney shape, and is dark brown. I suspect that it crossed with one of the very early green-podded Romano types, such as "Helda" or "Kwintus" (a.k.a. "Early Riser").
