Sounds like a bulblet. That is the way Lilies multiply. Youl can separate it and plant in some other place or leave it with mother bulb for a fuller look.

The technical term is bulbil, and it is how some lilies multiply. For some types of lilies, bulbils are produced every year, while others grow them only under certain conditions and usually do not produce bulbils.

Unlike seedlings, bulbils are exact replicas of the mother plant, and will produce the same flowers. You can remove them when they are ready to fall off by themselves, and plant them a quarter to half inch deep. Leaves may or may not emerge this season, but will definitely be produced next spring.

Leftwood, you are right! I missed the "high on the plant " part somehow. They are bulbils of course.

I was going to post on the same topic...as i had the same question! My lillies have a TON of the lil bulbils on them! I'm so pleases now ..since we are moving..i can take these with me!!

It's just the tiger lily type that do this, right? I have not seen this on my regular asiatics. Are Tiger lilies then a subset of asiatics?

Most commonly encountered in tiger lilies (L. lancifolium) but also in other asiatic species, as well as a few other types. Bulbil production is a recessive trait so it can pop up in any hybrid that has it in it's ancestry. Then again most lilies, whatever their ancestry, can be induced to produce a few bulbils if you stress them.
