If you can wait till the stems begin to yellow, it will then be a perfect time to lift the bulbs, discard the old stem and transplant the bulbs to your new garden. They should bloom just fine for you next summer!

Agree with AZNG plus this. If it is only across town or so you can just dig them up and replant in the new place. If you need a week or more between plantings then place them in a non-growing medium like peat or saw dust in an unclosed container. They should be ok for quite a while that way. I'm moving from New York state to West Virginia next summer and I have 1000 Lilies to move. Too much $$$ to leave behind.

If you can dig them up with most of the dirt intact and put them in pots until you can transplant, that's better yet. They do best if their roots aren't hurt. The roots and bulb never go completely dormant, so the more you can protect them, the better. That's also why you should keep them out of the ground as briefly as possible. If you have a thousand of them, like Lilium Guy, the pot idea might not be practical for you.

Lilies can be transplanted any time any time the ground isn't frozen, if you are careful with the roots.

Thanks for the input. I am moving in one week (from MD to MO) and the stems have not yet yellowed. One is just beginning to yellow. Can I remove the stalks and dig up the clump, trying not to damage the roots? I probably won't be able to replant the bulbs for 2-3 weeks. Will this be possible.

If the stalks & leaves are still green, the bulb kinda needs this to replenish itself for the next year - anyway you can leave as much as possible of the still alive upper portion as well? Good luck in the move.

If you have room to pot them up with stalks intact, I would do that.
