That is a hyacinth bean, Dolichos lablab. I am growing a white-flowered / brown seeded cultivar at present. You can cook & eat the young pods, before the seeds begin to fill out. I did a trial of several varieties a few years ago, the purple-podded one had the best flavor & texture.
