As long as the bulb you replanted still has some basal plate and the center of the bulb where the stem emerges it will grow again. If the damage was particularly bad (the center part badly damaged) it might respond by producing a bunch of bulblets rather than a flower stalk. The bulblets would take a couple or few years to reach blooming size.

If you haven't thrown your lose scales out already you could try propagating some bulblets from them, either in a more controlled way or just plant them out shallowly in the soil and let nature take its course.

I have a young - very large - very silly - giant schnauzer we refer to as "Teddy - flower destroyer". For some reason he has always, since he was just a tiny puppy, loved jumping among the plants and pulling them up to run around with. (What's wrong with chasing squirrels like our prior giant?) I bought the taller green plastic coated wire decorative fencing at Lowes (~ $10/10 feet) we call the Teddy fence. Being green and thin it doesn't show up much and slows him down enough for us to stop him (it wouldn't work if he was unsupervised). Teddy is 16 months old and we're hoping that when he matures (if that ever happens) that we'll be able to remove it.

Helen, it took my young (very silly, very energetic, and not very bright) mutt a few months of supervision to understand that she was not to cross that same fencing from Lowe's, but she finally got it. Now, after maybe four years, I've taken the fencing down completely and she stays in the (formerly fenced) area, out of the rest of the garden. It's a miracle! (There is hope).
