Maples and horses?

I know that red maple (Acer rubrum) leaves are deadly to horses, but what about sugar maples (Acer saccharum)? We just bought an adjoining piece of property and someday may get a horse or two. I was also hoping to plant some sugar maples there. Can anyone tell me if sugars are dangerous, too?

I live a good part of my life on a horse/cattle farm and swamp, sugar maples are OK, animals are smarter then we are in most things so they will not eat something that will kill them. I have seen a many maple striped of its leaves and never gave it thought. Next summer look at the field you will see all the poisoned plants, they will not be touched.I dare say Queen Ann's lace is more toxic then any other plant in the field, have you ever seen a horse eat tobacco no see they are smarter then us.

Maples shoot, They Shoot Horses Don't They? Seems consistent.

Moosewood is "relished" by deer and moose.

Last time I talked to a horse owner she was wondering if they were going to pull through, having foundered from eating something unsuitable that was growing in the pasture.
