The tires are used in many places for retaining walls, plus they will capture heat if kept black. If you don't like the black, I've seen them painted. OR you could use retaining blocks, but that can be expensive and very heavy.

I've seen people use the roll-up foil insulation to put on at night, and remove during the daytime. Most any building material store should have it in the insulation area.

I found a full roll of the vinyl stuff on Craigslist for $100, going to look at it to see the gauge today. The seller doesn't know, but thinks it was for convertible car and boat windows . From the picture it looks like a lot of material to be used in a greenhouse instead of glass. If it is not the heavy stuff there are places online that sell it with free shipping over $50. I only need like $150 of it.

I've thought about the foil, Farmtek sends out a sample of foil on on side white on one side bubble wrap. I have though of getting that and sandwiching it with something tear resistant. Maybe it's tear resistant but I don't recall it looking like something you could give super rough treatment of throwing on and off cold frames.

The difference might be the UV resistance. I have a friend that uses the foil covered bubble wrap inside of her hobby greenhouse for the cold overnights. Uses it like window shades. I've seen it at Menards, Lowes and HomeDepot probably has it also.

Well, I got lucky with the vinyl. It's a brand new roll of very heavy gauge and 75' long x 54" wide. With the little fenestration that we need in a green house in Southern CA, that will do a couple of them.
