If you are going to worry about this, then have the tree moved. Topping a maple to keep it a 'certain' height will ruin the tree anyway. I have two maples 30 feet from the east side of my house which should top out at 50 feet tall and wide, and I'm far more worried about people driving with one hand and the cell phone in the other.

Healthy tree rarely fall over. Maple trees are fairly strong trees so I wouldn't worry about it.

In my area I can find 100ft. tall Sycamores and similar trees being planted very close to houses (especially in small towns). My guess is that the trees will out last many of the homes.

I personally would not cut the tree unless it had a problem (dead tree, disease, bad limb).

Since you live in MN the maples probably grow slower and have stronger wood than they do here in OK where they grow so fast they are prone to wind damage and breakage due to their soft wood. Even at that, they are still stronger than the Bradford pear trees that break just from the weight of their sharp V weak growing branches
