Yes you can do that but only by the end of winter of very beginning of spring.

I have ordered and received a number of small, newly grafted JMs this spring. They were all shipped in the 3-4" pots they were grown in, with the pots securely fastened to the sides of the box with cords and plastic-coated wires to keep them from moving. The tops of their containers were stuffed with spaghnum moss, presumably to keep the soil from falling out and retain moisture. They also were shipped priority mail to minimize the shipping time. All of the maples were shipped cross-country (Calif to NC) and arrived in great shape. I transplanted them into larger pots in a good potting mix as soon as they arrived.
