Newbie question

I recently received a JM as a gift. It was not marked with any kind of tag and was purchased at a flea market. It stands about 3' tall and has mostly dark green coloration with a slight bit of burgandy on the leaves. The seller advised my father (the buyer) that the tree would turn more burgandy after some time in the shade.

This tree does not show a graft, it is most likely a seedling?

What can I expect from this tree? Tall, short? (I originally wanted a JM for my flower garden, something close to the house. Not sure if I should risk planting this tree in my garden or out away from the house in the yard.)

I know very little about JM and had been waiting to make an educated purchase, but my dad saw these and probably got a deal.

All of you experienced growers, any idea what I am in for here?

Thanks in advance!
