Full sun is ok for many Jm's including BG's but it will, as others, get leaf burn some more than others but BG's will burn in most but the northern most areas and possibly there too. I believe leaf burn may be worse with humidity but I am not sure i think there is more going on than just sun and of course wind can cause it too ...the JM mantra is morning sun and afternoon shade...but in a hot enough summer all JM's WILL burn. Age can help leaf burn to sonme degree but I had 8 -15 year old Blood goods and Atropurpuriums that were in partial to 3/4 shade ( some morn sun ONLY) 15+ ft tall that had extensive burn last summer... I have three bloodgoods that I planted last June in full sun. They survived 118-degree heat in August, a record freeze in January, and now look absolutely spectacular (7-8 feet tall). I have three others in the shade (under oak trees) but you can't appreciate the full beauty of bloodgood unless the sun shines through the leaves - they glow red in the sun! I think myersphcf's theory about humidity exacerbating the leaf burn might be a good one - our heat is blistering, but very dry.

Leaf burn also may be "promoted" by soil conditions ...we have amoung the richest soil in the country 2 feet deep black as coal rich in nitrogen ...we all know excessive nitro will burn leaves so that may also play a part in conjunction with sun wind humidity etc... although mine lost most of their leaves in the freeze mine also look spectacular right now although NOT as full as usual which is to be expected IMHO...we shall see how the sun effects them this summer.
