Thanks, leaveswave. I have my own copy of Best Plants, but I didn't know it was available online. I agree that it's a fantastic resource.

Appreciate the tips for the other sites. We are fortunate to have such a well-developed extension service in this state. The U's websites just keep getting better and better. I personally like the SULIS sites (www.sustland.umn.edu) that provide information on landscaping and even help you select plants for particular locations and conditions.

Another resource I would add is Northern Gardener magazine (www.northerngardener.org). It's the publication of the Minnesota State Horticulture Society and is tailored to gardening in our climate. The most recent issue featured winter sowing, for example.
