I see no has answered you yet and you are eager to plant something before it rains (?). First, please remember to do a rain dance before planting anything.

I honestly believe it does not matter which end goes down. The plant can sense which way the roots should go and which way the leaves should grow. Liatris has a corm, not a bulb, right? If you see anything that looks like tiny roots, that end can ge down, or you can put them sideways to get them half-way there.

In any case, they'll grow faster in the ground than in a bag, no matter which way you plant them.

Say, is NY in the Mid-Atlantic? I just noticed after assuming you were near me. My liatris have poked up out of the ground already.

Oh thank goodness you answered.& so the little things that looked like spaghetti is what I placed down into the ground. You want to laugh --- after I posted I went back outside with the thought of planting Calla Lillies. I opened that bag & really wanted to scream. I'll have to see if they come up. I took a guess on which way to plant them.... Oh by the way
