Plenty of ways to kill a tree...the problem is that you'll have a very large (I assume) dead tree to deal with after the deed is done, and large dead trees are inherently dangerous. It costs a bunch of money to pay a professional to cut down a large tree because it's hard work with serious risks attached. If you want the tree gone and it's too big to do it safely yourself, you really should pay a pro to do it. If you like, call another arborist and get another estimate.

Killing the tree is easy - but this will not make any difference on your problem, which is removing it. The only thing that killing it will do is give you a firm timeline.

A live, annoying tree can be removed whenever you have the time, inclination and funds. A dead, annoying tree must be taken down within a year or two before it starts dropping massive limbs and threatening to topple over.

And large dead trees are not very ornamental.

Try looking for a local lumber mill or a private party who owns his/her own portable saw mill. Some will cut down your tree for little or no cost.
