Swap hostas for lilacs, vines, sumac, shrubs

Hi, I've got alot of yard to fill and alot of hostas to trade. I have an area of my yard that has a 30 ft. row of arborvitae for privacy. However, arborvitae are slow to grow so I'd like to put some lilacs behind them to give me some privacy until the arborvitae fill in. I'm looking for any color lilac or tall shrub as long as it will get over 10 ft tall. I could also use some sumac and vines that can take low light. This area gets sun but, also competes with the trees. I have quite a few hostas and other perennials that I could trade. I live in the White Bear Lake area and will travel 15 miles to swap with you.

Hi jazzygardener,

I've always had luck with arborvitaes being very fast growers. First year after planting, they sleep. The second year, they creep and the third year they leap!

I'm sorry I can't help you with any of the plants you're looking to swap. Don't lose hope for the arborvitae to fill in quite quickly, though. :)

Jazzygardener,

I don't have anything that's that large yet. I have Joe Pye, but they only will get about 6ft tall. I was going to divide them, as I'm also trying to fill in along my fence. We have a very small pine tree.
If it were other things, I could help you, but all my things are new, and very small right now.
I hope someone here can help you out. You don't live far from me, I live in Blaine. If you need sun lovers, I have plenty to spare this year, the back yard is what we're working on now.

I have some Liatrus, may night salvia,asters,speedwells,centauras,that's just what I can recall at the moment, that I know I can share.
I'm going to be sharing some things with a few other "newbie" gardeners that are my apprentices in training.
Oh, and I have a ton to w/s. I have alot going on, but I check on here each morning usually.

Come on over when you can dig that is- and see what you may like that I can spare.... I have a few native arborvitaes/cedar that tend to sprout up all over- grapes- virginia creeper- smaller lilac root sprouts that can be dug- well- a bunch of different things you may like that I have an abundance of.
I live in the northern suburbs- not too far from you- possibly with in 15 miles....
I do like to share what I have an abundance of.... Did you ever find the yellow iris you were looking for?

Jazzygardener - Do you have plans to get all the lilacs you need? I can spare some of mine. They have purple flowers. I live in Vadnais Heights.
