I wonder if you would like to share what veg seeds you are planting now? I admire your veg. garden in the pic. and would like to hear what you're up to.
Hi Sandra- I planted my second batch of super sugar snap peas on Wednesday, despite the fact that my first planting three weeks ago has yet to emerge. I've sown spinach seeds in two spots- those should be up any day now. Other than that in terms of newly planted things I'm just concentrating on my tomatoes and peppers that I started indoors from seed a few weeks ago.
That patch you refer to is peaking right now. I am eating several meals of mache every week. Both of my boys (2 and 4 years old) love it. This is the most productive time of year for mache, and it's growing like wild. I have 5 varieties of heirloom garlic that are all taking off, and my fall sown parsnips and carrots are starting to show signs of life. I am about a week away from my first big picking of red russian kale. It's an exciting time of year for those who like cool season gardening.
I must say, I am totally sold on raised beds. Last year was my first time using them. I'm amazed at how productive they have been. The additional watering needed and up front cost is a small price to pay for the additional productivity and reduced need to weed.
I love raised beds, the ability to control the soil, weeds, earlier soil warmth... I have spinach that overwintered and is now growing again, I planted mache today as well as mesculun mix, lettuce mix, and some beets. I poked at my peas which have yet to come up, but they are germinating under there! I love veg. gardening and love to try to do it year round. I too have fall carrots, but I was wondering if they will be tough since they've been in all Winter, any experience with that?
