I have it. I love it! I put in two more of them last summer, and have collected quite a bit of seed from my other one. Grows great in my shade garden, the flowers smell wonderful!

Its a good one. It has a great fragrance and does very well in deep shade (north side of house). It also provides seeds. I just let mine self-sow and move the seedlings when I find them in spring. I'm sure you can get it in Minnesota somewhere, but if you can't, the Winter Greenhouse in Winter, Wisconsin has several varieties. (as well as many other perennials, wildflowers and shrubs, and lovely demonstration gardens) They don't mail order, but it is only a few hours drive for you. Winter is near Hayward, Wisconsin.

I too have a Cimi "brunette" in my yard- and do enjoy it very much! I have not had seeds germinate sucessfully though- I find division a great way to propagate-
You may have more luck if you search for 'actaea' as the name cimicafuga has recently been reclassified (name changed) to Actaea-
I am hoping to find a few more- Hillside black beauty- Pink spike, and realy, any others. I am wintersowing seeds of a couple right now- I hope I have better luck with germination this year than last year....
I have my plant in almost total shade but I fear it is too dry for it there- it does not grow as well as others elsewhere have. This family of plants will do very well in full sun too, if it's roots stay moist! I am sure you will enjoy this selection!

I have Hillside Beauty, Brunette, Racemosa and the new pink one. Love them all but Hillside Beauty is one of my very favorite perennial plants. The foliage is very dark the whole season and in August it sends up five foot spikes of white flowers. The contrast of the dark foliage and the white spikes is absolutely gorgeous!!
