Drying Up Leaves on Japanese Maple

Three years ago I bought a japanese maple with thelace-like leaves, drooping habit but I didn't get it out of the container until a few months ago. The top leaves near the new growth are drying up along with very oldest at the bottom. Did not transplanting it do unrecoverable damage? I'm givng it enough water.

Without seeing the tree in question, it's hard to say. Japanese maples ARE somewhat sensitive to transplanting, especially in summer, and their root system is quite delicate.

Really the only thing you can do at this point is continue to provide adequate water. But don't drown it :-))
