What is this on my maple leaves

Hi all,

I'm a new homeowner in Michigan. I moved up here from Texas, which means I know nothing about trees.

I am not sure what is happening to our Norway maple in the backyard. A few of the lower branches seem to be dying. Leaves are shriveling and have something growing on them. (see picture) Entire branches (3inches in diameter) also seem to be dying. What can I do to stop this from spreading and does anyone know what it is?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Those look like insect eggs, which probably has nothing to do with the branches dying. How about a pic of the tree? I'm not sure that's a Norway leaf.

HAven't experienced these myself but google 'maple gall mites'for info and how to treat.Unlikely to cause serious damage apparently

Yes, leaf galls. No need to treat. Won't affect the tree's health.
