Michael Dirr recommendation

Does anyone out there know the name of the book on Japanese maples that Michael Dirr recommends in "Dirr's Hardy Trees and Shrubs: An Illustrated Encyclopedia"? I was reading Dirr on maples in the bookstore yesterday but neglected to write the title and author down. Many thanks in advance!

Most likely Japanese Maples, J.D. Vertrees (Second Edition, revised by Peter Gregory), published by Timber Press. This is considered the "bible" for Japanese maple enthusiasts.

Another great reference (and one I value even a bit more than Vertrees) is Maples for Gardens, by the van Gelderen brothers.

I read dr. vertrees book but didn't find an answer to a question so i called him up and all he said was read my book. He was pretty old then and that was years ago.
