Planting Distance from Norway Maple

Hello,

I have a number of Norway Maple Trees around the perimeter of my property. I know they're notorious for sapping all of the nutrients out of the earth and preventing plants from growing underneath them. I'm curious whether there is a recommended safe distance for plantings? or is it dependent upon how the root system evolved? I'm planting a number of rhodos and wanted to increase the chances of them thriving. Thank you,

Since Norway maple seedlings and normal-growing cultivars can be expected to produce large trees over 60 ft. tall and wide then if they are never to be overtaken and deformed or killed by the maples the rhododendrons will have to be something like 30 or more feet away from the trunks of the trees.

Hi, Thanks for the response. The tree is probably about 50ft tall right now and I've been bringing the canopy up to allow more light near the base. I planted a rhodo about 10' away from the trunk ... I'm wondering the roots will let it live. I guess we'll see. Thank you

Often very tough to get much to grow beneath this tree.
