I have several in my collection. The beaches around Lake Superior have been fairly well stripped of agates - from so many folks of like mind - over these many years. The large ones I have are all OLD, and were given to me - the largest I've ever found, and this was 12 years ago, was only the size of my thumbnail. They are GORGEOUS, but they seriously discourage rock hounds out for agates up there now on public sites. If you REALLY want to do some beach hunting, you'll need to stay at a place with their own private beach and get permission to "look around" for them. The further north you go the better luck you'll likely have.

Carlton and Cloquette have dirt roads lined with gravel sized aggies- I bet the Gravel Yards all that gravel comes from has some larger rocks as well!!
Also check online- there are a few rock swaps that specialize in Lake Superior Aggies- there is one in Moose Lake every spring- if I remember correctly....

I have a set of wind chimes made from sliced Superior agates. I bought it about 30 years ago when Canal Park was just getting rolling. I haven't seen any lately but I bought the chimes because I hunted many agates on Superior beaches when I was a kid (1950-60s). It is hard to find good agates anymore, however I did find some up by Grand Marias a few years ago.
