I can't give you a name, but I'm quite certain it's a common weed. I get it mostly in shadier spots, and it seems to appear just as the Scilla is finishing. The foliage is appealing when the plant is relatively small and every year I keep hoping it's one of the minor spring bulbs.... alas! Left on its own, it gets leggy and tangled up in other plants. Fortunately, easy to pull up.

It's not a 'desirable' native, that I'm aware of. I'm sure the folks on the Name That Plant forum could name it quickly.

Thanks for the links. I know in the past I've assumed it was a weed and just kept them pulled. But I have grown fond of the foliage on the plant. And since I've had a problem getting a lot of greenery in the back I thought that as long as it's not mixed in with what I have purposely planted I might just leave it be.

Ah...I've noticed this as it starts blooming. I'd be really happy with it if it would just stay low like a ground cover. It could solve some of my problems then. LOL
